Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Vitamin B12 Protocol?

The Vitamin B12 Protocol is a set procedure for maximizing the efficacy of Vitamin B12 supplementation. It involves optimizing thyroid hormone production, activation of Vitamin B2, cycling of methylfolate, and recycling of Vitamin B12. For more details on how to correctly implement each step, click here.

How do I know if the Vitamin B12 Protocol will benefit me?

The Vitamin B12 Protocol is designed to improve a cellular process called methylation. Because methylation is involved in regulation of genes, many (if not all) aspects of health and development are governed by this process. Vitamin B12 insufficiency is likely near the root of many of today's health crises. Neurological conditions, such as autism, chronic fatigue syndrome, and multiple sclerosis, to name a few, are especially responsive to Vitamin B12. Individual results vary, but the process is supported by the scientific literature.

Will oral supplements work just as well?

Unfortunately, many neurological conditions involve the degradation of the intestinal lining, leading to poor nutrient absorption. Furthermore, the hostile environment of the digestive tract can reduce the bioavailability of many dietary supplements, including iodide, selenite, molybdate, and Vitamin B12 itself. While oral supplementation can be effective in some cases, transdermal and hypodermic delivery are almost always superior to oral supplementation. This is why Spectrum Sciences has created this product line of transdermal nutrients.

In addition to the superior absorption that our transdermal microemulsion technology provides, this mode of delivery also gives a delayed-release effect, allowing the body to make better use of these nutrients. Oral absorption causes blood levels of the nutrients to spike, thus resulting in a very narrow window of nutrient availability. In many contexts, this reduces the efficiency with which cells can make use of the nutrients.

How long does it take for the B12 Protocol to start working?

The answer to this question is going to vary from person to person. For those who are able to tolerate the doses needed to achieve the desired lab outcomes, results can be felt and witnessed in just a few weeks. These effects generally progress over the course of months and years. Because methylation and mitochondrial health affect every system of the body, effects are often very broad. Some commonly reported benefits include better digestion, increased food tolerances, sharper mental faculties, more energy, better sleep, and improved immune response.

Where on the body should I apply the serums?

Directions for how to correctly apply our products can be found here.

Do your serums feel greasy or sticky?

We find that If someone is ever left feeling greasy or sticky, it's
usually due to the user applying more than the recommended dosage or not spacing out the drops far enough from each other, creating a layering effect. Spacing each drop at least 2" (5cm) from each other allows the product to absorb very quickly without residue. Most users have commented that they like the way the serums feel on their skin, producing an effect similar to that of a very light moisturizer.

We do recommend that you rotate where you apply the serums on your body. Those with dry or sensitive skin can experience irritation if the same location is used to apply the serums every day. Keeping the skin supple with a moisturizing body wash, such as a liquid Castile soap, can make a big difference.

What is the recommended number of drops for each product?

The B12 Protocol is an individualized system based on symptom resolution and/or lab test results. Some users may need several drops of each product, while other users may only need select items from our product line. The human metabolism is a dynamic system that is influenced by individual genetics and individual environment. Therefore, the optimal number of drops of each product will likely vary as time goes on. We recommend using symptoms and lab testing to guide dosages. Click here for instructions on how to properly implement the Vitamin B12 Protocol.

What are the ingredients used in your serums?

All of our products list ingredients on the product page and on the secondary packaging. We source only time-tested, safe, proven ingredients.

Do you ship internationally?

We proudly ship internationally! If you are not offered a shipping option at checkout, let us know so we can make sure you are taken care of.

Will cold weather affect my order? Is it okay if the bottles arrive completely frozen?

In winter months, it is possible that your order will be subjected to freezing temperatures at various points along the shipping route, usually in your mailbox (and at customs if ordering internationally). Rest assured that your order will not be affected by freezing.

Part of our testing process was to subject each product to five 48-hour freeze-thaw cycles.  They were cooled to -20°C for 24 hours and allowed to thaw at 25°C for 24 hours. This process was run five times without any observation of phase separation or increase in particle size.

If your product arrives frozen, there is nothing to worry about.  Just allow about 12 hours for the bottle to thaw out at room temperature.  Do not heat the bottles to speed up the process.

You may give a fully thawed bottle a quick shake to ensure that any solids which might have settled are redissolved.

Will hot weather affect my order? Is it okay to order during summer months?

There is no set maximal temperature that our products can be exposed to, though it is best to store them at room temperature. The relatively brief amount of time that a package may be exposed to elevated temperatures during shipping (i.e. in your mailbox) will not measurably affect potency. Rest assured, there are no concerns with placing an order during summer months.

Do you offer guidance on the thyroid panel or OAT results?

US residents with access to a Quest Diagnostics draw center can purchase thyroid labs here. Residents of the US and most other countries can purchase the OAT here. Review of the results as it pertains to the B12 Protocol is available here. We suggest that you work with a nutritionally-informed physician when making any changes in your diet or supplement regiment.
